The Grelle Forelle sound concept was originally formed on holiday, somewherein a hammock in Croatia - and to this day, it hold its own in the internationalclub scene. Its sound system consists of two vertical bass lines, each withfour Lambda Labs DW-15 subs, and one Alcons Audio QR36 line array with Alcons’Pro-Ribbon technology. In technical terms, this unique setup creates half-spaceconditions. In less technical terms, it helps reduce all sorts of unwantedreflections, be it from floors, ceilings, or rear walls. It is one of the bigreasons what makes it special.
This behemoth of a system isrounded off by a 4-point setup with two additional QR36 line arrays framing thedance floor. And since a simple 4-pointer would be too easy, we arranged therear speakers in a way that you “enter” the sound when leaving the bar, only tobe completely surrounded by it after just a few meters.
From the bar onwards, two AlconsAudio VR12 systems complement the frontal system, providing sound to the rearof the 30-meter main floor. The clean bass impulse, set up by our vertical basslines, extends throughout the entire club, providing a sold foundation in thelounge area behind the bar, while still being precise and without resonance. Tomake this possible, we added multi-layered, 60cm-deep bass traps consisting ofporous absorbers, air volumes and custom-built membrane absorber elements inthe entirety of thes rear walls. This was necessary to avoid any reflectionsthe highly directional bass reproduction might otherwise produce, and ease itinto a “natural” flow.
After the Forelle decided toincrease the number of live concerts hosted, the existing sound system wasupdated with three Alcons Audio RR12 tops on each side, hung to the left andright of the live stage. For an ultimate sound experience, we fine-tuned thebass system’s characteristics and tuning, and transferred more frequencies intothe top speakers. This means that all musicians play directly in front of thebass array— an unique experience of sound for both artist and audience.
